The Watchdog of New Mexico
New Mexico does not need another political insider guarding the books. New Mexico needs a watchdog willing to follow the money — every dollar, every agency, every elected official.
Joshua James Ryan Lawrence is the Republican nominee for New Mexico State Auditor — and he earned that nomination the hard way. In the June 2026 primary, he received 29,103 Republican write-in votes statewide, meaning every single one of those voters had to physically write his name on their ballot. That is not a normal result. That is a movement.
Joshua has dedicated his career to government accountability, election integrity, constitutional rights advocacy, and anti-human trafficking efforts. He is running for State Auditor because he believes the office already has the authority to expose fraud, waste, and abuse — what it has lacked is a person with the will to use it.
"This campaign was built by everyday New Mexicans who are tired of government waste, tired of political insiders protecting each other, and tired of not knowing where their tax dollars are going. The question is not whether the office has the power. The question is whether the person holding that office has the will to use it. I do."
New Mexico received $10.4 billion in federal funding in FY2025 alone — ranking among the highest per capita of any state in the nation. That is your money. It flows through state agencies, school districts, counties, and local governments across all 33 counties. Someone has to make sure every dollar is accounted for. That is exactly what the State Auditor is supposed to do.
The State Auditor follows taxpayer money. Joshua will audit public entities, expose fraud, waste, and abuse, and make sure government agencies are answering to the people who fund them — in plain English, not bureaucratic jargon.
Parents deserve to know whether money is actually reaching classrooms. Joshua will audit school spending, administrative bloat, procurement practices, and failures to correct prior findings.
Auditing state agencies for waste and mismanagement — and publishing the results in plain English so every New Mexican can understand exactly where their money went.
Protecting taxpayer dollars with a stronger, more transparent fraud reporting system — making it easier to report concerns and see that government actually followed through.
Small towns, counties, water associations, and special districts across New Mexico deserve the same rigorous financial oversight as the capital. No community gets left behind.
Reviewing public contracts, procurement practices, and grant programs to ensure taxpayers get fair bidding, clean contracts — and no politically connected sweetheart deals.
Every audit, every finding, every corrective action — published online in language real people can read. Government must answer to the taxpayers who fund it. No exceptions.
"The Office of the State Auditor already possesses the authority to investigate fraud, waste, and abuse. The question is not whether the office has the power. The question is whether the person holding that office has the will to use it. I do."— Joshua James Lawrence, Republican Nominee for New Mexico State Auditor
